It has been prescribed by both Western and in Chinese doctors. Hippocrates treated patients with apple cider vinegar over 400 years ago, and the Bible mentions vinegar to treat infections and wounds. Easy to come by, and inexpensive to use, apple cider vinegar treats many ailments, from the digestive system to skin and hair. It has also been utilized to treat allergies, acne, flu, and dermatitis. Apple cider elevates pH levels, causing increased alkalinity in the body. It is anti-bacterial, antiseptic, anti-viral, and anti-fungal.

Apple cider vinegar contains over ninety different nutrients. It is high in potassium, and many other minerals, such as calcium, magnesium, chlorine, copper, iron, fluorine and sodium. Apple cider vinegar also includes two ketones, thirteen types of carbolic acids, trace minerals, and amino acids. It also has fiber in small amounts as apple pectin. Apple cider vinegar contains large amounts of Vitamin C and smaller amounts of Vitamin A, B1, B2, B6 and E. Acetic acid is one of the main ingredients and is responsible for releasing energy from fat and carbohydrates, which is why some have touted vinegar as an aid to weight loss.

Start with 1 T in a 8 oz water w/ a splash of lemon juice.

February is heart health month

5 heart healthy foods...

1.Garlic: This herb is ideal for heart health. Numerous studies have shown the potential benefits of regular garlic consumption on blood pressure, platelet aggregation, serum triglyceride level, and cholesterol levels – all of which keep your heart performing. Garlic also makes a great seasoning for food so you can greatly reduce salt.

2. Salmon: High in Omega-3s, a good fat

3. Berries and Cherries: . These sweet treats are high in polyphenols, which prevent cell damage that creates unhealthy blood vessels and heart. During the winter, opt for frozen berries. Try thawing a bag of frozen strawberries in the refrigerator. Then, add unsweetened, steel-cut oatmeal with the berries their juice and your heart will say thanks with each beat.

4. Quinoa: Often mistaken as a grain, this tiny sprouted seed is an excellent source of magnesium, the mineral that relaxes blood vessels. Low dietary levels of magnesium lead to some scary health issues like increased rates of hypertension, ischemic heart disease and heart arrhythmias. Quinoa cooks quickly and can easily be found already prepared as a side meal in the deli section..

5. Hot Cocoa: Hot cocoa is brimming with antioxidants – two-times more than red wine and three times more than green tea. The cool February temperatures are no match for a mug of hot cocoa. Tip: since hot chocolate mixes are full of sugar, use 100% cocoa and combine with a teaspoon of sugar. One of the challenges is that kids have their own money these days and will often grab a snack at the fast food place. We can't control what they do when they are away from home, so when they are home for breakfast & dinner, make sure they eat healthy choices. Lots of fresh vegetables w/ranch dressing (it will be OK), pizza with vegetables as toppings, some fruit, lots of healthy proteins like nuts & eggs...easy on the cheese.

Mood Swings

One moment they're sweet and the next they are bugging you! They need an emotional and nutritional anchor. Liquid ionic minerals and protein can provide such an anchor. Minerals and proteins are the basic building blocks of neurotransmitters and hormones. When the neurotransmitters and hormones are balanced the moods swings will settle down. Another way of evening teens out is the combination of Blessed Thistle and Red Raspberry. These herbs can be given to girls and boys.

Sleep Patterns

Recent studies have shown that teens have both an increased need for sleep (almost as much as an infant) and a very abnormal sleep rhythm. They do much better if allowed to sleep until at least 9:00 AM, and if allowed to stay up till 11:00 PM or midnight. Their whole circadian rhythm is different from the rest of the world, it seems. This is grossly inconvenient. A protein-rich breakfast like eggs and whole grain toast, bagel, cereal bar or cereal will keep their energy during the morning. Protein snacks, like a trail-mix, will help to keep their energy up and running smoothly and avoid the pitfalls of blood-sugar dips.

Skin Problems

When acne is a problem, the solution is liver support and improved nutrition. If the junk food is reduced to a minimum, and blood purifiers like the herbal blends of Liv C or Oregon Grape are used internally, much can be cleared up. Elevated testosterone in both boys and girls can also be responsible for acne. Blessed thistle or black cohosh can counteract this. Excess dairy products especially cheese, refined sugar, white flour, junk food fats, and soft drinks all contribute to bad skin. Tea tree oil, pau d'arco lotion, or silver shield gel can be applied to blemishes with a cotton swab to both kill the bacteria and dry up the excess oils.

In everything you do, give thanks!

Brain food...

Our brains need & thrive on variety, challenge and change. The chlorocarbons have long been known for causing organ, genetic, and reproductive damage. The testing of sucralose reveals that it can cause up to 40 percent shrinkage of the thymus: a gland that is the very foundation of our immune system. Sucralose also causes swelling of the liver and kidneys, and calcification of the kidney.

No artificial sweetener will be safe to the body. Sounds like a good thing, right? Well, in reality a bottle of Vitamin Water contains 33 grams of sugar, including crystalline fructose. So the average consumer will believe they are doing something healthy by choosing Vitamin Water over soda when the reality is that there is not much difference.

Vitamin Water has over SIX teaspoons of sugar in it. That's just in one drink which is a small part of your intake for the day. At the end of a month, how much will that add up to?

What is crystalline fructose? According to The Sugar Association, “Crystalline fructose is produced by allowing the fructose to crystallize from a fructose-enriched corn syrup.” While many people mistakenly believe that fructose is an acceptable form of sweetener, it is far from healthy. Refined man-made fructose raises your triglyceride levels which are the chemical form of fat found in your foods & your body. Continue to add this to your daily diet then you will live with those levels high all the time.

Moderation is key when it comes to sugar. try to limit to once a week or a couple of times a month. Remember, it's NOT the only form of sugar that you will put in your body.

Drink pure water and get your vitamins from the food you eat.

Whatever you do, give thanks!

Pimples...

Pimples are a sign of imbalance and the answer lies in finding that balance.

1. A good cleanse for the colon will strengthen the liver & kidneys so that toxins flush through their proper channels & not only their face & back. It can be very gentle & you'll never know it!

2. Increase water & decrease/eliminate soda & juice.

3. The body is saying that there is an important need to process fats properly & it's having a hard time with what's coming into the body. The best way to do that is to decrease bad fats...chips, crackers (a few won't hurt) BUT to increase olive oil & cod liver oil in their diet.

4. Wash the face with a gentle cleanser.

With teenagers, there are a couple of good NSP products that will help to balance hormonal changes as well.

Almond dessert

Yummy healthy dessert... it's not even cooked!

1 cup smooth almond butter
½ cup oatmeal
1/3 cup chopped almond slivers
½ cup raisins1/3 cup unsweetened medium coconut
½ cup mini chocolate chips
Extra coconut to roll logs in

Mix first six ingredients together. Take steps to boost your own immune system!
Drink half your body weight in ounces of pure water every day to keep your immune system strong.
Make sure you are eliminating after every meal so that germs do not have a place to "hibernate" in your body.
Get plenty of sleep at night, and be in bed before 11 PM.
Eat healthy foods, including lots of fresh fruits and vegetables.
Eat cultured dairy products such as organic yogurt and kefir to boost your immune system, as they are loaded with natural probiotics.
Avoid the foods that deplete your immune system, particularly coffee and soda, and anything containing white sugar or high fructose corn syrup. Drinking just one can of soda depletes your immune system by 90% for the next 5 hours...a great reason to give up drinking soda!

B. You can also boost your immune system with several simple supplements taken daily.
1. Probiotics which stimulate the growth of beneficial microorganisms in the intestines and boost your body's first line of immune defense.
2. Vitamin D3, which our bodies manufacture from SUNSHINE! Try to get out in the sun for at least 15 minutes a day, and be sure your arms and legs, as well as your face, are exposed for maximum Vitamin D3 production. D3 gives your immune system a tremendous boost, and greatly reduces your risks of illness. If you can't get out into the sun, take D3 as a supplement.
3. Silver. What do the hospitals use to kill germs and prevent infections? Silver! I am so thankful we have silver at our disposal to both boost our own immune system and kill germs on contact. Here are three tips for using silver to kill any and all germs! NSP product. Will write post about this in June '09.
Take Silver Shield every day by mouth. 1-2 teaspoons daily will help protect your body from unwanted guests: germs! It is completely safe to take silver shield every day.
Apply silver gel to your hands throughout the day, particularly if you are out in public. The silver gel applied to hands (or anywhere!) kills every type of pathogen known to science for four hours, or until you wash your hands again.
Apply a small amount of gel at the entrance to your nostrils with a q-tip swab. This is the spot where flu germs enter the body—so be proactive and protect yourself!
Use a 2 oz nasal spritzer bottle filled with Silver Shield, which will put liquid silver into your nasal passages and kill any germs that have entered there. This will also do wonders to help with seasonal allergies and sinus problems!
4. Apple cider vinegar...organic w/the mother stuff in it. I like Bragg's brand. Good for keeping our intestines clean. Will wirte more about this in another post in June '09.

C. FEAR NOT!
Fear has been proven to lower your body's immune responses. Wash your hands, take your silver and supplements, eat healthy foods, and trust in God, praying for His protection! God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power, love and a sound mind. (2 Timothy 1:7) A sound mind is key to remaining calm and focused in any time of emergency or crisis.

Food for thought...

It is more important to know what sort of person has a disease than to know what type of disease a person has.

Hippocrates (463- 377 BC)

Organs & emotions...

Emotions come from the Latin word 'to move out'. We tend to want to do our thing and then we'll end up worrying if everything will be alright. If you have any stomach related issues, then take the time to ask God to show you any area that you are trying to fix and work out in your own strength. Is there an area where you are stressed and worried because you don't know what to do? Let God show you a way to peace.

Here are some of my favorite products for the stomach...

Intestinal Soothe & Build is one of the best products around for people with a sensitive tummy. It soothes, stops diarrhea and keeps stools soft & regular. 2 or 3 capsules with meal

Probitoic Eleven puts good helathy bacteria back in the gut & will help aid with digestion, assimilation of nutrients, and helps produce B-12 in the body. Probiotics should always be taken after a round of antibiotics. 1 or 2 capsules before meals

CLT-X is helpful for soothing herbs that ease inflammation of the digestive tract such as colitis, Crohns, ulcers, IBS and diverticulitis. 2 with ea meal

Small Intestine Detox is designed to break down undigested proteins that may clog the small & large intestines. This product works well as part of a colon cleanse. Use for 2-4 months in a year. It contains marshmallow which is one of my 2 favorite soothers for digestive/intestinal issues...the other being slippery elm.

PLS II contains both marshmallow & slippery elm, goldenseal & fenugreek. This works good when the irritation is between your ribs. You can also open a capsule and add a little water to make a paste for swelling & minor injuries to promote healing. I used it on a bee sting on the forehead of a one yr old little girl at baseball. It was swollen and was a big red ring. Within an hour it had completely healed to an itty bitty dot.

You can use any of these for 3-4 months at first, then you should be able to use on an as needed basis when you're working through something.

In all you do, give thanks...

Cleanses..

In the movie, The Last Emperor, the Chinese doctors regulated the young Emperor's diet by examining his stool. Today few people pay attention to this, but we can learn to maintain better health by monitoring our elimination.

If we eat 3 meals a day, we really should be having 2-3 bowel movements a day. If not we're probably constipated and could benefit from a colon cleanse. Here are some guidelines..

1. It should be easy to eliminate. If you have to strain, then you need to increase water & fiber to your diet.
2. The shape is important. Your colon is a long, narrow tube and the stool should come out in that shape. Usually they will be banana or s-shape or like a thick piece of rope. If your stool is hard, dry balls then you are dehydrated & constipated.
3. They should not float but break up on flushing. If not then you are not digesting fats properly and the gall bladder could use some nourishment.

Just as our car engines need oil changes and radiator flushes, our body needs a cleanse to clear up the accumulation of waste products so that it will run smoother & more efficient. Our elimination organs were designed for that...to eliminate, but a cleanse allows the body to cleanse its own tissues, break down old material, and eliminate it.

The best way to start this type of cleansing in the tissues is to fast. A 24 hour once per month is a good basic health building practice. For most people it is easiest to fast on juice. I recommend organic apple juice...4 oz throughout the day for 24-48 hours. Add a squirt of lemon to it.

Herbal options come in a variety of choices and these are my preferences:
2 capsules All Cell Detox or Enviro Detox 3X times day
2 capsules LBS or Gentle Move at dinner

Do this cleanse for 30 days at least once a year. Right before winter is a good time because then you will be clean and ready for the heavier foods that you will eat during the wintertime as you prepare your body to keep the fire burning & keep you warm on those chilly nights.

In all you do, give thanks!

Colds and flu..

This is my protocol...

1. It is important to understand that the symptoms of fever, inflammation, sinus drainage, coughing, diarrhea & vomiting are generated by the body's immune system. It is the body's way to flush out irritants. We don't want to stop this process but we can nourish the body while it is working for us.

2. When you notice something coming on, stop eating. Switch to fruit & veggie juices, soups and broths and applesauce. Add sauteed onions & garlic to chicken noodle soup.

3. As soon as possible, rest and take a warm bath with Epsom salt or a Mineral bath. It will open up the body's channels of elimination and help you to recover faster. Use a hot water bottle for chills instead of a heating blanket.

Keep on hand at all times...
Lemons in every liquid
Onions & garlic in chicken noodle soup
Epsom salt
Ginger tea, peppermint tea, detox tea

Some NSP herbal choices...
Thai Go 1/3 cup 2-3 x day
HCP-X
Elderberry Defense has echinacea, elderberries & royal jelly....great anti viral formula

If it affects your lungs, try Seasonal Defense. If your lungs tend to be weak, Cordyceps is good because it acts as a lung tonic.

If it affects the digestive tract, good choices would be HCP-X and Small Intestine Detox.

When the flu gets deeper, symptoms are fever, fever with chills, muscle ache & general weakness. They are wonderfully healing for the body providing all the nutrients we need at this time of year. There are different minerals, enzymes and nutrients in strawberries than in pears. Eat strawberries in the summer when your body needs to cool down from the heat and pears in the fall when your body needs complex carbs to begin to keep itself warm.

Their creator determined their harvest for our benefit!

Eat applesauce, pumpkin in breads & muffins and a slice of sweet potato pie!...I suppose a pumpkin spice latte would count as 1/2 point..LOL! They can be raw, cooked or steamed and dipped in Ranch dressing!

A sliced carrot looks like the human eye with a pupil, iris & radiating lines. Science now shows that carrots greatly enhance blood flow to and function of the eyes.

A tomato has four chambers and is red. The human heart is red and has four chambers. Research shows that tomatoes are indeed pure heart and blood food.

Grapes hang in a cluster that has the shape of the heart and each one looks like a blood cell. Research shows that they are a good food for our heart and blood.

A walnut looks like a little brain, a left and right hemisphere, upper cerebrums and lower cerebellums. Even the wrinkles or folds are on the nut just like the neo-cortex. We now know that walnuts help develop over 3 dozen neuron-transmitters for brain function.

Kidney Beans actually heal and help maintain kidney function and yes, they look exactly like the human kidneys. The key here is to chew them until liquid.

Celery, Bok Choy, Rhubarb and more look just like bones. These foods specifically target bone strength. Bones are 23% sodium and these foods are 23% sodium. If you don't have enough sodium in your diet the body pulls it from the bones, making them weak. These foods replenish the skeletal needs of the body.

Eggplant, Avocadoes and Pears target the health and function of the womb and cervix of the female - they look just like these organs. Today's research shows that when a woman eats 1 avocado a week, it balances hormones, sheds unwanted birth weight and prevents cervical cancers. And how profound is this? ... It takes exactly 9 months to grow an avocado from blossom to ripened fruit.

In all you do, give thanks!

Lemons...

I think lemons are one of the best foods that God created. He created them for us to use for a good purpose! He put a balance of minerals in lemons that include clacium, phosphorus & potassium and a good dose of vitamin C. Use lemons daily and they will nourish your brain, nerves, and bones.

Add the juice of a lemon to 6oz of orange juice 3x day for sore throats.
Add to water & teas (peppermint and/or ginger) when the body needs balance during cold or flu symptoms.

Squeeze lemons in water, on salads, veggies & meats.

One of the easiest ways to brighten up a room is to put a bowl of yellow lemons out for all to enjoy. You will be surprised as how it will brighten your mood & make you smile! That in itself is healing.

Amazing results from one little round yellow fruit! My goal is to include physical, emotional & spiritual elements in my posts.

There is an emotional aspect for all healing. It is important to check our hearts for bitterness, worry, fear & anger...to name a few...these do not lead to health but will open a door to disease if left on their own. Think of disease as dis-ease...a broken connection with ease in our life.

There is a God in Heaven that loves us and has a plan for our lives. We are His workmanship & have been created by Him for good works that will bear much fruit. We want to be healthy and full of energy to do His will! The price has been paid, so come join me on this journey...
